The nuclear medicine department belongs to a university hospital of nearly 2.000 beds. The department has a high clinical activity in all major domains and has 20 years of PET experience. The department has also a strong research program especially in clinical PET, radiopharmacy and medical imaging. Infrastructure : there are 5 gamma cameras (1 triple, 3 double and 1 single head), 2 clinical PET cameras (1 Siemens HR+, 1 Biograph PET-CT 40 slice), 1 PET CT 16 slice camera dedicated to research (Biograph 16 Hirez) and an in-house cyclotron (IBA 18/9); the PET radiopharmacy lab is being upgraded to fulfill to GMP rules. Research grants have been obtained in the fields of oncology (tumour biology and treatment evaluation), brain imaging, drug development, cardiology and gene imaging. New SPECT and PET tracers are under development and new techniques of image reconstruction and processing are investigated. A fully equipped Molecular Small Animal Laboratory (MOSAIC) is opera tional including microPET (Focus, Siemens/Concorde), multipinhole microSPECT, , 9.4 T microNMR, microCT, and a bioluminescence camera. All activities are supported by an academic team of MD’s, radiopharmacists, chemists, physicists and engineers. More information can be obtained from http://www.kuleuven.ac.be/nucmed/ . The successful applicant should be an MD, allowed to practice nuclear medicine in Belgium. Strong candidates who are willing to fulfill this criterium in the near future can be considered. The applicant will have a broad experience in patient management and will have also a strong interest in education and research, especially in oncology. A PhD is necessary to obtain an academic position. Leuven is situated 20 kilometers from Brussels in the heart of Europe and provides ample opportunities for culture, arts, entertainment and leisure.
